NHHS Drill Team & Color Guard
Up through
the 2002 - 2003 school year, North Hollywood High School had a Drill Team and
a Color Guard (Tall Flags). During the 1990's the number of Drill Teams we saw
at competitions in Southern California steadily decreased. In the fall of 2000,
we often went to field tournaments where only one school out of every five
had a drill team. By 2002, we were often the only drill team at a field tournament
and none of the local tournaments were giving awards to drill teams, only to
combined "Auxiliary Units".
So in order to stay up with the style of competition in Southern
California, beginning in fall 2003, we combined our Drill Team & Color
Guard to form our Dance Team.
The
Dance
Team
uses dance
moves
and also
works
with
tall
flags,
rifles, sabers, & other props. The table below shows what happened to our
scores at the same competitions after we combined the groups:
| Auxiliary Awards |
|
|
| |
|
|
| South Bay Invitational |
4th place |
1st place |
| Loara Field Tournament |
3rd place |
1st place |
| LAUSD Band & Drill Team Championship |
|
High Auxiliary Award |
The hard work of the members as well as the leadership of Dance Captain Jane
Chung and Instructor Regina Hodges made this transition a successful one.
Beginning in the fall of 2005, the Southern California School
Band and Orchestra Association (the group that judges almost all field tournaments
in Southern California)
discontinued Drill Team judging at field tournaments.
