The Advanced Orchestra is a string class open to students with three or more years of experience playing violin, viola, cello, or string bass. In addition to providing students with essential musical skills, we teach that superior effort, self-sacrifice, and group cooperation are essential to achieving success. The group performs as a string orchestra in the Fall and as a symphonic orchestra in the Spring. The orchestra performs at several school concerts and festivals throughout the year. In recent years, repertoire for string orchestra has included unabridged works such as Greig’s Holberg Suite, Rutter’s Suite for Strings, Mozart’s Eine Kieine Nachtmusik, Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, and Symphonic works such as Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, Beethoven’s Symphonies No. 7 & 5, Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez and Verdi’s Nabucco Overture.
